At the end of summer, a female moose finds herself alone in the forest. She’s just lost her young calf, likely to a bear. Now, she must find a mate. When again pregnant, she will endure months of devastating winter before delivering her newborn in the spring. She will fiercely protect this new calf from the forest’s many predators, while teaching him all he’ll need to know to survive.

And then suddenly, around his first birthday, she will suddenly sever their deep bond – pushing him toward independence just before she’s to give birth again. This is the touching, unforgettable story of a mother’s journey through nature’s eternal cycles: an inspirational tale of the struggle to survive and the many wonders of life, set against a backdrop of stunning Canadian natural wilderness beauty.
