Sometimes a documentary takes you where you least expected. Over five years director Marianna Economou followed Kostas, a gentle 75-year-old diver who hauls toxic shipwrecks from a polluted seabed and becomes a local hero by proposing a community diving park. He seemed to embody the healing of a devastated area, until, near the end of filming, the unexpected revelation that he had been a member of a neo-Nazi party was a bombshell. The environmental film she thought she was making abruptly shifted into a morally and politically complex human drama, forcing her to reexamine assumptions and truths.
